Boronic Acid and Trifluoroborate Prices for Suzuki Coupling: US vs China (October 2026)

Price index for seven boron reagents used in Suzuki coupling, per gram and per mole. At the 100 g pack, US list prices ran 1.5 to 6.7 times the China index; phenylboronic acid was the cheapest, at $17.78 per 100 g and $22 per mole in China.

Bar chart of the US list price as a multiple of the China price index at the 100 g pack for seven boron reagents, from 6.7× for phenylboronic acid to 1.5× for an ethoxyvinyl pinacol ester.

This report compares what seven boron reagents used in Suzuki–Miyaura cross-coupling cost in the United States and in China: three boronic acids (phenylboronic acid, 4-fluorophenylboronic acid and methylboronic acid), a boronic acid pinacol ester (trans-2-ethoxyvinylboronic acid pinacol ester), two potassium organotrifluoroborates (potassium vinyltrifluoroborate and potassium N-Boc-aminomethyltrifluoroborate) and diboron tetrahydroxide, a borylation reagent.

Boron reagents are dosed in molar equivalents, and the molecular weights of these seven range from 60 to 237. So besides the price per pack, this report gives the price per gram and the price per mole.

All figures come from the GrapeCat Chem regional price index. They are list prices observed between 13 and 16 October 2026, converted to US dollars at the European Central Bank reference rate. Every comparison uses the same stated purity and the same pack size in both regions. The values are research benchmarks, not quotations or offers.

Key findings

  • At the 100 g pack, the US list price was 1.5 to 6.7 times the China index: phenylboronic acid 6.72×, 4-fluorophenylboronic acid 3.88×, potassium N-Boc-aminomethyltrifluoroborate 3.44×, methylboronic acid 3.02×, potassium vinyltrifluoroborate 2.90×, diboron tetrahydroxide 2.04× and trans-2-ethoxyvinylboronic acid pinacol ester 1.53×.
  • Phenylboronic acid was the cheapest of the seven in China: $17.78 for 100 g (9 sources) and $160.02 for 1 kg (4 sources), or $0.16 per gram.
  • Per mole, methylboronic acid and phenylboronic acid cost about the same in China at the 100 g pack, $24 and $22, although methylboronic acid cost 2.2 times as much per gram. Its molecular weight is less than half that of phenylboronic acid.
  • The two potassium trifluoroborates cost more per mole than the three boronic acids: $105 for the vinyl salt and $1,499 for the N-Boc-aminomethyl salt, against $22 to $43 for the boronic acids (China index, 100 g pack).
  • The US list prices of phenylboronic acid and 4-fluorophenylboronic acid were identical at every pack from 5 g to 1 kg, while in China 4-fluorophenylboronic acid cost 1.7 times as much at 100 g.
  • Larger packs were usually much cheaper per gram in China: potassium vinyltrifluoroborate fell 79% from 1 g to 100 g, and phenylboronic acid 78% from 5 g to 1 kg. There were exceptions: methylboronic acid cost slightly more per gram at 500 g than at 100 g, and the ethoxyvinyl pinacol ester more at 100 g than at 25 g.

Methodology

  • Each product is identified by its CAS number and checked against its PubChem record.
  • Listings are grouped by stated purity and pack size. Only the same purity and the same pack size are compared across regions; listings without a stated purity are left out.
  • A listing counts for the US when its stock is located in the United States and for China when its stock is located in China.
  • Each source is reduced to the median of its own listings; the regional index is the median across sources.
  • Prices in Chinese yuan are converted at the latest European Central Bank reference rate before observation: 1 CNY = 0.14941 USD (12 October 2026) for phenylboronic acid and 4-fluorophenylboronic acid, 0.14942 USD (14 October 2026) for trans-2-ethoxyvinylboronic acid pinacol ester, and 0.14945 USD (15 October 2026) for the other four.
  • Price per mole is the pack price divided by the pack mass in grams, multiplied by the molecular weight shown on the product page. It does not adjust for purity.
  • The ratio in this report is the US value divided by the China value. Product pages show the same comparison as a percentage gap, (US − China) ÷ US.
